I made it up to the sheep barn today just in time to see the last lamb of the morning being tagged.
French bureaucrats make one hell of a meal (no pun intended) out of lamb traceability and every year the requirements become more stringent.
Tagging the lambs means a good dose of disinfectant, state of the art sheep breeding software (not quite sure about that one as we always seem to be about 10 years behind the rest of the world), yellow ear tags and an applicator.
In a few seconds the lambs are equipped with a new earring and ready to rejoin their mums.
Of course not everyone needs yellow earrings to keep track of the lambs…
…sometimes a good pair of eyeballs can do the job just as well.
A good pair of eyes and a darn good sniffer too.
Sheep breeding software?
Is it like, insert ram (pun intended), press download, click on copy and wait for reproduction to complete?
I don’t know, the world gets crazier by the day!
PS Lovely lambs
LOL!
If only..!
Good to see you back again!
Lambing is progressing here too, although my Man had hoped for none before March.
Such gorgeous-looking lambs…are they for wool or, you know….I hope they’re for wool!
Sorry they aren’t for wool…
But by the time they leave here, they look a lot more like young sheep and a lot less like cute lambs, which makes it a bit easier!
